The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for two Independent Living Officers role to join our young peoples’ homeless services in Birmingham. The role will be primarily based at our “The Foyer” scheme located at 1 William Booth Lane, Birmingham however, you may be asked to occasionally cover shifts at Muirhead House, 189 Bristol Road, Birmingham, B5 7UB.

The service supports young people to develop independent living skills, apply for suitable accommodation, access primary health care services, and engage with training, education, employment, and volunteering opportunities.

You will be part of a friendly and highly professional team with responsibility for providing the very best housing-related support to vulnerable young people. You will develop and put in place independent living plans for our customers, supporting them to address issues which may have contributed to them becoming homeless and equipping them with necessary skills to take forward into independent living and or if appropriate supporting them to return home to live with family.

Our ideal candidate? It goes without saying that you will need to be a people person with the passion, drive and enthusiasm for delivering quality services to vulnerable people, providing a first-class customer service. You should have some knowledge of the welfare benefits system and issues relating to homelessness, with demonstrable experience of providing housing related support to customers and achieving effective outcomes. You should have a desire to help others and to see them succeed and be capable of pulling out all the stops to make that happen. You will need to be able to work with others in a fair and assertive manner, using your excellent communication skills, with a solution focussed outlook.

You will need to be able to work 39 hours per week, to a rota that includes shifts into the evening and at weekends.
